Welcome to QueryLex! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of QueryLex's AI-powered legal document analysis platform. By using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms. Please read them carefully.
IMPORTANT: QueryLex is a document analysis tool. It does NOT provide legal advice. Always consult with a qualified attorney for legal matters.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, accessing, or using QueryLex's services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use our services.
Age Requirement: You must be at least 18 years old or the age of majority in your jurisdiction to use QueryLex. By using our services, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.
2. Description of Services
QueryLex provides an AI-powered platform specifically designed for analyzing legal documents, particularly sanctions documents, contracts, regulations, and other legal materials. Our services include:
- Document Upload: Upload PDF documents for analysis (including OCR support for scanned documents)
- AI-Powered Search: Query documents using natural language with hybrid search technology
- Semantic Analysis: Retrieve relevant information with source citations and document references
- Document Collections: Organize documents into custom models
- Chat Interface: Interactive conversation with real-time streaming responses
- Context-Aware Responses: Answers based on up to 8 relevant document chunks
2.1 Technical Specifications
QueryLex operates with the following technical parameters:
- Supported File Formats: PDF only (including scanned/image-based PDFs via OCR)
- Maximum Upload Size: 300MB total per account across all documents
- Document Processing: Automatic text extraction using PyPDF2, Unstructured, and Tesseract OCR
- Document Types: Optimized for sanctions documents, contracts, regulations, legal opinions, court filings, and other legal materials
- Chunk Size: Documents processed in 1,024-token chunks for optimal AI analysis
- Search Technology: Hybrid search combining vector similarity (BAAI/bge-large-en-v1.5 embeddings) and keyword matching with semantic reranking
- AI Models: Powered by multiple AI providers including OpenRouter (default), OpenAI (direct), and DeepSeek (direct), accessing large language models such as Mistral, Gemma, GPT-4o, and DeepSeek Reasoner
- Response Features: Real-time streaming responses with source citations from original documents
- Context Window: Maximum 8 document chunks per query response
2.2 Service Availability
We strive to provide reliable, uninterrupted service but do not guarantee:
- 100% uptime or availability
- Error-free operation
- That the service will meet all your specific requirements
- That AI-generated results will be accurate, complete, or suitable for your purposes
3. User Accounts and Registration
3.1 Account Creation
To use QueryLex, you must:
- Provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration
- Maintain and promptly update your account information
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or security breach
3.2 Account Responsibility
You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:
- Not share your account credentials with others
- Not create accounts using false or misleading information
- Not create multiple accounts to circumvent service limitations
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
4. Credit System and Billing
4.1 Credits
QueryLex operates on a credit-based system:
- Credit Consumption: Each AI query consumes credits. Standard queries consume approximately 1 credit, while more complex queries with larger context may consume more credits based on:
- Number of document chunks analyzed (up to 8 per query)
- Response length and complexity
- AI model processing requirements
- Document Processing: Uploading and processing documents may consume credits for text extraction, OCR (if applicable), and embedding generation
- Credit Packs: Purchase one-time credit packs:
- Starter Pack: 50 credits for EUR19.00
- Pro Pack: 200 credits for EUR59.00
- Firm Pack: 800 credits for EUR199.00
- Credit Balance: You can view your current credit balance at any time in your account dashboard
- Credit Expiration: Purchased credits do not expire unless your account is terminated
- No Refunds: Credits are non-refundable once purchased and used (except as required by law)
- Initial Credits: New users receive free credits upon registration. During promotional periods, users may receive up to 100 credits; standard signup credits are 10 credits. Check our website for current promotional offers.
- Monthly Free Credits: All accounts receive 5 free credits per month. These monthly credits do not stack and reset on the first day of each calendar month.
4.2 Pricing and Payment
All prices are listed in Euros (EUR) and include applicable VAT for EU customers. We accept:
- Credit and debit cards
- Stripe Link
- Local payment methods (Klarna, Bancontact, EPS, iDEAL, etc.)
4.3 Billing Information
You agree to:
- Provide accurate billing information
- Authorize us to charge your payment method for purchases
- Pay all fees and applicable taxes
- Update payment information if it changes
4.4 EU VAT
For EU customers:
- B2C (Consumers): VAT is charged based on your billing address location
- B2B (Businesses): Provide your valid VAT ID to apply reverse charge mechanism
- Invoices: Automatic invoices are generated for all purchases
5. Subscriptions
5.1 Subscription Plans
QueryLex offers recurring subscription plans:
- Pro: EUR9.99/month - Unlimited queries
- Legal Team: EUR149/month - Unlimited queries
5.2 Subscription Terms
- Monthly Credits: Credits are allocated at the start of each billing period (monthly renewal date)
- Rollover Policy: Unused monthly subscription credits do NOT roll over to the next billing period. Use them before renewal or they will be forfeited.
- Purchased Credits: Credits purchased separately via credit packs do NOT expire and are separate from monthly subscription credits
- Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew on the monthly anniversary of your initial subscription date unless cancelled before the renewal date
- Cancellation: Cancel anytime via account settings or Stripe Customer Portal; access continues until the end of current billing period
- Payment Failure: If payment fails, your subscription may be suspended until payment is resolved
5.3 Cancellation and Refunds
- You may cancel your subscription at any time via account settings or Customer Portal
- Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
- No partial refunds for unused subscription time
- EU consumers have 14-day withdrawal right (see Section 13)
6. Use of AI Services
6.1 AI-Generated Content
IMPORTANT: QueryLex uses artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) to analyze documents and generate responses. You acknowledge and agree that:
- Accuracy Not Guaranteed: AI responses may contain errors, inaccuracies, or hallucinations
- No Legal Advice: AI-generated content is NOT legal advice and should not be relied upon as such
- Human Review Required: Always verify AI-generated information with qualified professionals
- No Warranty: We make no representations about the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of AI outputs
6.2 Third-Party AI Providers
QueryLex uses third-party AI services to provide our document analysis capabilities:
- OpenRouter API: Our default provider, offering access to multiple large language models (LLMs) including Mistral, Google Gemma, Qwen, and Meta Llama for generating responses
- OpenAI (Direct API): When you select OpenAI models (GPT-4o, GPT-5.1, o1, o3, etc.), your queries are sent directly to OpenAI's API servers in the USA
- DeepSeek (Direct API): When you select DeepSeek models (deepseek-chat, deepseek-reasoner), your queries are sent directly to DeepSeek's API servers in China
- HuggingFace: Provides the BAAI/bge-large-en-v1.5 embedding model for semantic search and document analysis
- Data Processing: Your queries and document content are sent to these providers for processing, but we implement encryption and security measures
- International Data Transfer: OpenAI is based in the USA; DeepSeek is based in China. When you select models from these providers, your query data is processed according to their respective privacy policies and data protection standards. EU users should be aware that neither country has an EU adequacy decision for general data processing.
- No Training: We do not use your data to train AI models, but third-party providers may have their own data policies
- Third-Party Terms: Use of these AI services is subject to their respective terms and policies, which we cannot control
- Security Measures: All data transmitted to AI providers is encrypted in transit using SSL/TLS
6.3 Responsible AI Use
You agree to use AI features responsibly and not to:
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or extract underlying AI models
- Use outputs to train competing AI systems
- Rely solely on AI outputs for critical legal decisions
- Misrepresent AI-generated content as human-created professional work
7. Data and Privacy
7.1 Your Documents
Documents you upload to QueryLex are:
- Your Property: You retain all ownership rights to your documents
- Confidential: We treat all uploaded documents as confidential attorney work product or client materials
- Encrypted at Rest: All documents are encrypted using Fernet symmetric encryption before storage
- Encrypted in Transit: All data transmission uses SSL/TLS encryption
- EU Data Center: All data is stored exclusively in EU-based data centers through Supabase EU infrastructure
- Row-Level Security: Database access is protected by Row-Level Security (RLS) ensuring you can only access your own documents
- Comprehensive Audit Logging: All document access and operations are logged for security and compliance purposes
7.2 Data Processing
By using QueryLex, you grant us permission to:
- Store Documents: Store and process your documents in encrypted form on Supabase EU servers
- Generate Embeddings: Create vector embeddings using BAAI/bge-large-en-v1.5 model for semantic search (embeddings are 1024-dimension vectors)
- Extract Metadata: Automatically extract metadata including dates, citations, article numbers, and entities from your documents
- AI Processing: Send relevant document chunks to AI providers (OpenRouter, OpenAI, or DeepSeek depending on your model selection) for generating query responses
- OCR Processing: Use Tesseract OCR to extract text from scanned or image-based PDF documents
- Create Backups: Maintain regular backups for data security and disaster recovery
- Audit Logging: Record all operations for security monitoring and compliance tracking
- Phone Number Processing: Collect and store phone numbers provided during checkout for account security and customer support
7.3 Data Retention
- Active Accounts: All documents, embeddings, and metadata are retained while your account is active
- Account Deletion: When you delete your account, all data is permanently deleted within 90 days
- Document Deletion: When you delete individual documents, they are removed from the database but may persist in backups for up to 90 days
- Legal Requirements: Some data (transaction records, audit logs) may be retained longer as required by tax laws, EU regulations, or legal obligations (typically 10 years for financial records)
- Backup Retention: Encrypted backup data may persist for up to 90 days after deletion for disaster recovery purposes
- Audit Logs: Security audit logs are retained for 1 year for compliance and security monitoring

8. Intellectual Property
8.1 QueryLex Property
All rights, title, and interest in QueryLex (including software, designs, trademarks, logos, and content) are owned by us. You may not:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works
- Reverse engineer or decompile the software
- Remove copyright notices or proprietary markings
- Use our trademarks without written permission
8.2 Your Content
You retain ownership of all documents and data you upload. By uploading content, you grant us a limited license to:
- Store, process, and display your content to provide the service
- Create embeddings and metadata for search functionality
- Generate AI responses based on your content
This license terminates when you delete content or close your account.
8.3 AI-Generated Outputs
AI-generated responses and analyses are provided "as-is." You may use AI outputs for your own purposes, but:
- We make no claims of ownership over AI outputs you generate
- You assume all responsibility for how you use, rely on, or share AI-generated content
- AI outputs may be similar to outputs generated for other users querying similar documents or asking similar questions
- Source citations and document references included in responses are provided for verification purposes - you must verify their accuracy
- All AI responses include references to the specific document chunks used to generate the answer
9. Acceptable Use and User Responsibilities
9.1 Prohibited Activities
You agree NOT to:
- Illegal Use: Use the service for any illegal purpose or to violate laws
- Harmful Content: Upload content that is defamatory, obscene, or infringes rights
- Malicious Code: Upload viruses, malware, or malicious code
- System Abuse: Attempt to disrupt, overload, or hack our systems
- Data Scraping: Use automated tools to extract data without permission
- Reselling: Resell or redistribute our services without authorization
- Impersonation: Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
- Spam: Send unsolicited communications through our platform
9.2 Document Content
You represent and warrant that:
- You have the legal right to upload and process all documents you submit to QueryLex
- Your documents do not infringe third-party intellectual property rights, copyrights, or trademarks
- You comply with attorney-client privilege and confidentiality obligations when uploading client documents
- You have obtained necessary consents for processing personal data contained in documents (GDPR Article 6 lawful basis)
- Documents are within the 300MB total storage limit for your account
- You do not upload executable files, malware, viruses, or malicious code disguised as PDFs
- You do not upload documents containing child exploitation material or other illegal content
9.3 Professional Responsibility
If you are a legal professional:
- You remain responsible for all professional obligations
- You must verify all AI-generated information before use
- You must comply with bar association rules and ethical guidelines
- Use of QueryLex does not replace professional judgment
10. Disclaimers and Limitations
10.1 No Legal Advice
QUERYLEX DOES NOT PROVIDE LEGAL ADVICE. Our service is a document analysis tool only. AI-generated responses:
- Are not legal advice or professional consultation
- Should not be relied upon for legal decisions
- Cannot replace consultation with a qualified attorney
- May contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies
10.2 "AS-IS" Service
QueryLex is provided "AS-IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Accuracy or completeness of AI outputs
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
10.3 AI Limitations
You acknowledge that AI systems:
- May produce incorrect, incomplete, or nonsensical outputs
- Cannot understand context like humans
- May "hallucinate" or fabricate information
- Are not capable of legal reasoning or judgment
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1 Liability Cap
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims arising from your use of QueryLex shall not exceed the greater of:
- EUR100 (one hundred euros), OR
- The amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim
11.2 Excluded Damages
We shall not be liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Lost profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities
- Legal fees or costs from reliance on AI outputs
- Damages from unauthorized access to your account
- Damages from service interruptions or errors
- Damages from third-party services or AI providers
11.3 Basis of the Bargain
These limitations reflect the allocation of risk between us and are an essential basis of our agreement. These limitations apply even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
11.4 Statutory Rights
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by negligence
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation
- Any liability that cannot be excluded by law
12. Termination
12.1 Termination by You
You may terminate your account at any time by:
- Accessing account settings and selecting "Delete Account"
- Contacting support at andrius@querylex.com
12.2 Termination by Us
We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you:
- Violate these Terms of Service
- Engage in prohibited activities
- Fail to pay fees when due
- Engage in fraudulent activity
- Use the service in a way that harms us or other users
12.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination:
- Your access to QueryLex will cease immediately
- Unused credits will be forfeited (no refunds except as required by law)
- Your data will be deleted within 90 days
- You remain liable for any outstanding fees
- Sections that should survive termination (e.g., liability limitations) will continue to apply
13. EU Consumer Rights
13.1 Right of Withdrawal (14-Day Cooling-Off Period)
EU consumers have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving any reason, EXCEPT:
- Digital Content/Services: Once you begin using the service (making queries, uploading documents), you waive the withdrawal right
- Credits/Subscriptions: By purchasing and using credits, you expressly agree to immediate performance and acknowledge loss of withdrawal right

13.2 Consumer Protection
EU consumers benefit from mandatory consumer protection laws. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under EU consumer protection legislation.
13.3 Dispute Resolution
EU consumers have access to the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr
14. Changes to Terms
14.1 Modification
We may modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting notice on our website
- Sending email to your registered address
- In-app notification
14.2 Acceptance of Changes
Continued use of QueryLex after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. If you do not agree to changes, you must stop using the service and may terminate your account.

15. Governing Law and Disputes
15.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of:
- For EU Users: The laws of France (or your country of residence for consumer contracts)
- For Non-EU Users: The laws of France, excluding conflict of law principles
15.2 Jurisdiction
- EU Consumers: May bring legal proceedings in courts of their country of residence
- Business Users: Exclusive jurisdiction in courts of Paris, France
15.3 Informal Resolution
Before filing any legal claim, you agree to first contact us at andrius@querylex.com to attempt informal resolution.
16. General Provisions
16.1 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and QueryLex.
16.2 Severability
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in full effect.
16.3 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision does not constitute a waiver.
16.4 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign our rights and obligations without restriction.
16.5 Force Majeure
We are not liable for delays or failures due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control (e.g., natural disasters, war, strikes, internet failures).
16.6 Language
These Terms are provided in English. Translations may be provided for convenience, but the English version prevails in case of conflict.
